#51 Brand-new eye

#51 Brand-new eye

It's late evening, but who cares.

Ello: I promised an art related post, and here I deliver. I was so focused on making something normal and not pressuring myself, that accidentally I made my biggest and most detailed art yet, that took over 3 and a half hours.

So no yapping on this one, we get straight to the art:

Originally it was supposed to be only a little training of a new eye making method. I saw an incredibly cute eye and thought: I want to try too!

So generally art isn't very good apart from the left eye and the hand. Look out for those.

As you can see, you have to get the monocolor iris and give it a little shading. Later, you start adding dots and little shapes in the similar color. I could not find any rule to choose the right ones, just try and look if what you did looks good.

The middle iris thing is incredibly important, it does not have to very visible, but somehow it puts everything into the right perspective.

Now, more dots and the light reflection.

It might look weird from up close, but (as you can see at the preview) it all comes together nicely.

The final part is a little shape correction and some details on the other side. Also, try to use lighter colors on the one side and darker on the others.

I was supposed to stop here, but screw this, we are going in.

I knew who it is supposed to be, so the details we kinda set in stone, the execution on the side...

Might as well start working on the other eye if we are already here. I knew the pose won't change, so setting more details in stone will make future planning easier.

There is special complexity here, if something doesn't look right, the black line might be a little too thin (at least it, was for me).

I won't ever get, why blush is so important. In everyday life, you don't even notice it, but adding it to any character makes them look 10x better.

The rest of the face is pretty standard. UwU face works every time.

I found this method of making hair most reliable, just outline the most important strands, fill and shade them.

I didn't want to cover the eye, it was the best part of the art, after all!

Here, I got a little stuck on the hair part, so I decided to start designing the hat. Lesson: if you are stuck on some part, start working on some other!

This will do for now, not everything has to be done in one sitting.

Ok, now focus, the second important part is upon us: THE HAND!

The fingers were simple enough, started from the tip and went to the hand.

This is how it looks colored. Don't worry! I got scared too! Trust the process!

See? Much better. To be honest, I don't know how to draw hands, I just copied how someone else did it. But that's how we learn, after you copy something enough times, you will know how to do it by yourself.

This shading is incredibly important! Take a good look and try to remember.

Ok, the good part ended, now we get to the scuff. I still have no idea how to draw shoulders and clothes.

To be honest, I should have just shaded it and stop messing with something I'm terrible at... but that's not how we work. Every mistake is a lesson.

Comeback to the hair, just shades and some details, nothing crazy to not overcomplicate it (but something is missing, I wonder if any observant student notices what?).

Yep, the glorious, irreplaceable, always capable: light line!

Now when the face and hand are finished, time for accessories... man I really suck at those.

I started with the hat, first I wanted to add a similar light line, totally ignoring the fact that I already did one... and two different light sources look weird at best. General rule: DON'T DO THAT

Yea, I was going crazy with this shit, testing everything that came to my mind.

That's how it ended, light line, but more in line (hehe) with one on the hair.

The shoulders got massacred... I know...
Also, I noticed many artists use some color as a background, I have no idea why, but it kinda makes character look better.

The hat got enlarged, and some polishing was made.

Final piece. I did both amazing and terrible work at the same time. But I'm proud of myself.
I think this one really shows that I learn and develop, I could not even imagine myself from a year ago doing half of this.

And you are also doing better, maybe not right now, maybe not always, but you are. And I'm proud of you every attempt, you got this champ!

Thank you for reading this monstrosity, it will happen again.
